STIGMA - CONCERTO FOR THE UNDEAD (Review)

Written by

stigmacryptBeing a notorious fan of the horror genre, CONCERTO FOR THE UNDEAD by Italian metallers STIGMA intrigued me right away. You see, this entire album has a theme... it revolves around TALES FROM THE CRYPT. Although it opens with a likely-unlicensed sample of John Kassir doing his Crypt Keeper laugh from the HBO Series, "Chop His Head Off!" is a hardcore opening for an album not based on the series, but inspired by the EC COMICS series from the 1950's.

ANCHORED - LISTEN TO THIS (Review)

Written by
anchoredcoverThere was a moment about thirty seconds into the first track on ANCHORED's LISTEN TO THIS when I realized something: If it's not already, "Dirty in Texas" will soon be found blaring through the P.A. speakers in sporting arenas throughout "The Lonestar State." The album opener is just anthemic enough to find itself being used as such, while it's also just sleazy enough to be found looping on repeat in smoke-filled bars and strip clubs that reek of baby oil.

Gather 'round the fire true believers, because right now you're about to hear a tale of a legendary beast from the land of Maryland. Yes indeed, that beast is CLUTCH, and they've returned once more to carry a torch and raise a flag for the legions of ears that can only have their sonic thirst quenched by the sounds of genuine pure rock fury...

DEAD COUNTRY - EP (Review)

Written by
51hymOjZCL. SL160 Four songs are seldom enough to judge the overall quality of a band, but if the quartet presented on this EP is any indication - DEAD COUNTRY are off to a fine start.

SEASONS AFTER - THROUGH TOMORROW (Album Review)

Written by
61cl5A9O3L. SL160 THROUGH TOMORROW, the debut release from Kansas natives SEASONS AFTER has quickly risen to the top of my "surprising albums" of 2010 pile. Originally self-released by the five-piece band early last year, the album was picked up by Dirtbag Music who reissued the set with an additional track last month, and promptly began giving the album the push it deserved.
