When you’ve got a Holiday-centric product that only sells from New Years until Easter, time becomes fairly limiting. The solution to expansion? Get into other Holidays. Marshmallow Peeps did it, so why not the Cadbury Creme Egg? Well, they did it – and as far as I can tell, the Halloween edition of the popular chocolate egg first appeared in Europe and Canada last year. For 2012, they’re here in the ‘States as well, though without the marketing push that our neighbors to the North are witnessing.
The difference in notoriety is likely the result of the Cadbury Screme Egg being marketed in the U.S. by Hershey’s. Interestingly, I hadn’t originally noticed them until they were brought to my attention on twitter. Check out a recent Canadian commercial below…

I’ve eaten two of these so far this season, and as expected – they taste exactly like their Easter counterparts. The difference is the inclusion of some green “goo” as opposed to the yellow center found in the standard version.
Has the “Goopocalypse” arrived? Possibly, but you’ll have to track these down at your local grocery store to taste it for yourself!
