When FANTOMAS first hit the scene with 1999’s self-titled entry into the world of the avant-garde, many questioned the longevity of the supergroup comprised of MIKE PATTON (FAITH NO MORE, MR. BUNGLE), BUZZ OSBORNE (MELVINS), TREVOR DUNN (MR.BUNGLE, SECRET CHIEFS 3), and DAVE LOMBARDO (SLAYER).
When the band returned in 2001 with THE DIRECTOR’S CUT, it became clear that there was much more to FANTOMAS than shortened blasts of conceptual noise. With 16 tracks of brilliance (including a silent unlucky #13), the band put together a tribute to cinematic music and film scores that remains just as brutally haunting and impressive twelve years later.
If their unique take on ROSEMARY’S BABY, CAPE FEAR, and THE OMEN aren’t enough to convince you that THE DIRECTOR’S CUT is an essential album for Halloween, just open your ears for a listen to their take on SPIDER BABY from the 1968 Jack Hill film…

Although the band has released two more studio albums since, with THE DIRECTOR’S CUT, FANTOMAS created a masterpiece yet to be topped.
Twelve years after it’s release, it’s entirely possible that Trick-or-Treaters that visit Rock Father HQ will hear these songs emitting from my lair.
