I first mentioned the KRE-O CityVille Invasion line of building sets here on The Rock Father back in August, and as part of my 31 Days of Halloween, it’s time to show off one of the most seasonally-appropriate of the bunch: The Haunted Hideaway. Given to me by Hasbro during a recent Holiday Toys lunch here in Chicago, this 317-piece building set was irresistible to my four year-old, despite being advertised for ages 7+. Straight-away, she wanted to build “the haunted house,” and that secured it a spot here as Day 16.
Now, technically, the CityVille Invasion sets are tied-into an App which we can’t use (I’m on Windows Phone and the App is iOS/Android), but that doesn’t matter. It’s a town that’s loaded with monsters and villains and the forces of good that are out to stop them. The Haunted Hideaway set includes five mini KREON figures with IAN A. ALLEN and AGENT HOLSTER facing off against BARON BATCAKE, SKELETRON, and ECTOPLAZ.
There’s some cool features built into The Haunted Hideaway, with a dropping axe, exploding crypt, and moveable drawbridge among the highlights. And, there’s a little car… which if you’ve read this site on any sort of regular basis, you won’t be surprised to know was the first thing that Addie assembled.
The one thing that I’m not sold on with the KRE-O CityVille Invasion as a whole is the “Sonic Motion” function, which moves the KREON figures on little gliding bases by vibrating the playset – a lot like the old “Electronic Football” games of the 70s/80s. While I don’t really need to see it as a parent, my little one does find it pretty amusing (see the bottom middle photo above). You can also check out some of the “Sonic Motion” in the Instagram video below…
