Album Review: DEIVOS — ‘Apophenia’

Published:

Oh. So you want heavy, right? I’m talkin’ neck-breaking skull-crushing kind of heavy. You in? Well then, pull up a chair, and let’s get into Apophenia, the newest album from my boys in DEIVOS.

Poland has long been a hotbed of metal madness. Mini-Amps (my son) and I have been groovin’ to bands such as DECAPITATED and BEHEMOTH for over a decade now, and DEIVOS is right up there as far as we’re concerned.

I first discovered these guys with the killer record Theodicy and have been a fan ever since. So trust and believe that I couldn’t press PLAY on this beast fast enough. From the jump, we get “Feretory,” which leads right into the short but sinister track “My Sacrifice.”

Next up are “Sermon of Hypocrisy” and “De Materia Turpi,” paving the way for my absolute favorite tune in “Revelations.” The band rages like a four-alarm fire, and the vocalist Hubert Banach sounds like petrol is his drink of choice!

My next favorite is the album’s title track, “Apophenia,” which showcases how heavy and talented these guys are. The closer, “Persecutor,” is the stuff headbanging is made for. It’s just a fantastic track.

In summation, I’ll say this: Apophenia is not only a killer Death Metal album but also a brutal assault on your senses, one I am here for again and again. If you have not by now, get on this with a quickness!

The album is available digitally now, while the CD is out on January 17, 2025, via Selfmadegod Records. Pre-order it via Amazon.

STANDOUT TRACKS: “Apophenia,” “Persecutor,” “Revelations,” and “Feretory”
