BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME has been one of my favorite bands ever since THE SILENT CIRCUS first came to town in 2003. Now, after nearly a decade as a member of the Victory Records family, the band has moved onto Metal Blade for the release of THE PARALLAX: HYPERSLEEP DIALOGUES (out 4/12). Containing only three tracks, this release is billed as an EP – but at thirty minutes in length, it’s practically an album.
To call them “progressive metal” is unfair to the band, as BTBAM is their own sonic beast – one that can be compared to no one.
There has always been beauty within their chaos, and THE PARALLAX is no exception. Moreso that any of their prior works, this record cannot be experienced in any manner except as a complete work. Like a classical symphony, you will either get it or you wont. If the great composers of the past were alive today, they would likely be creating music along the lines of BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME.
