The First Daddy/Daughter Dance – Elsa and Anna’s Fabulously FROZEN Ball…

Published:

This article is more than 11 years old and may not have been updated since our last site redesign. It may contain outdated information or could be missing images.

Last night, as a fresh blanket of snow appropriately fell from the sky here in Northern Illinois, I took my oldest Princess to our first Daddy/Daughter Dance. “Anna & Elsa’s Fabulously Frozen Ball” was an experience both fantastic, and fascinating. As a Father, it was the first of many Daddy/Daughter Date Nights to come – first with Addie, and in a few years, with Little Finley. As a pop culture aficionado, it was incredible to see that a movie that hit theaters just three months ago, had already spawned a full-blown Park District production.

There is no question that I go out of my way (probably too out of my way) for my girls at times, and the preparation for the dance was a prime example. Sure, I could take my girl to a FROZEN dance in something other than a FROZEN dress (we have a full wardrobe of royal costumery), but when my little one asks for an Elsa dress, I’m gonna do my best to make that happen. Problem is, NOBODY has the Elsa merch right now. In fact, the $20 mass retail dresses are being scalped on sites like eBay for $50-$75 dollars, and the $50 Disney Store Dress? I’ve seen shady people asking as much as $400 on the auction sites. Supply and demand I understand. Scalping (and that’s what this is), I don’t appreciate. 14 stores called last weekend and a special trip to a remote Target store 30 minutes away (who was kind enough to hold it for me), and I scored not only an Elsa dress, but the accessories and a Olaf.

A corsage purchased the night before the dance would complete the ensemble, and soon, Daddy and Daughter were ready to rock. Now, I’m not gonna call myself “The King” to my “Princess Elsa,” and if you’ve seen FROZEN, you know why… not exactly the best parents in that film.

Daddy and Addie

More than a “dance,” the ball featured “The Princess Cabaret,” who performed a collection of Disney classics, while taking some creative liberties with the songs and story of FROZEN. Belle (BEAUTY AND THE BEAST), Aurora (SLEEPING BEAUTY), Rapunzel (TANGLED), Jasmine (ALADDIN), Tiana (THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG), The Fairy Godmother and Cinderella, Sofia the First, Snow White and Ariel (THE LITTLE MERMAID) were all on-hand to join Anna and Elsa for some song and dance.

The Princess Cabaret

With crafts, a scavenger hunt, and many friends to see… the Daddy/Daughter “dancing” was a minor attraction (but we did dance nice for a bit) that took a backseat to a bunch of proud Fathers enjoying a night out with their little ones (from tots to teens) while watching them dance with the Princesses to everything from PSY’s “Gangam Style” to YLVIS’ “The Fox” (I was spinning Addie off the ground like a helicopter during that one), with a little bit of CAPITIAL CITIES and TECHNOTRONIC mixed in for good measure… and yes, a few different variations of “Let It Go” could be heard.

Addie and the Princesses

All the fun had, I do have one serious point to make…

WARNING: DO NOT be the only Dad at a FROZEN dance to have an Olaf doll. You will be attacked by Zombie Disney Princesses! Video Evidence Below!
