Did Velveeta Nail the Perfect Heat-and-Eat Easy Lunch for Busy Parents?

This article is more than 11 years old and may not have been updated since our last site redesign. It may contain outdated information or could be missing images.

If you’re reading this, you already know that I’m a busy, work-at-home Dad with two little girls. That said, I’m often squeezed when it comes to lunchtime around here. I don’t necessarily eat “well” all the time, and after getting lunch prepped for the little ones, it’s often Daddy that ends up scrounging. Well, the crew over at Velveeta found a new way to bring their classic blend of Liquid Gold into a new category – with easy, heat-and-eat Velveeta Cheesy Skillets Singles. 60-seconds in the microwave and done. It’s a quick meal that The Rock Father can break out in-between making peanut butter sandwiches and feeding babies.

I do most of the cooking around these parts, so I’m already a fan of the Velveeta Cheesy Skillets that come boxed. I always sub ground turkey or chicken in those, since my girls don’t eat red meat (drats!), but these singles come beefed-up for the LASAGNA WITH MEAT SAUCE and ULTIMATE CHEESEBURGER MAC, with CHICKEN CHILI CHEESE MAC and CHICKEN ALFREDO available for the poultry fans in the house. I’ve since had all four (check out pics from my recent Walmart shopping trip on Google+), and they’re good.

Lunch is ready...

Down the hatch? Now, the weird thing is that I’m pretty sure I saw the Velveeta Blacksmith hanging out in my backyard and giving me a nod before slowly retreating behind my shed. Why he was back there, I don’t know, but since I let my oldest daughter pick which flavor I’d be eating, she was pretty happy with the end result.

Out of the four flavors available, the only one I don’t plan on purchasing again is the CHICKEN ALFREDO. I’m not sure why, but it seems the only Alfredo sauce I like comes from The Olive Garden, and believe me, I’ve tried a bunch of different variations. Even Addie seemed to look at the white sauce a little questionably…

But the other three are destined to become staples in the pantry here at Rock Father HQ.

Have any of you tried these yet? Anything interesting I should be trying for a fast lunch? Let me know in the comments section below…
