Despite all the thousands of different STAR WARS toys and products that I’ve owned over the years, somehow only one toy from my own childhood is still in my possession. The KENNER STAR WARS Laser Pistol was one of the first STAR WARS toys to be released for the first film in 1977, and it’s today’s featured item in Hasbro’s Force Friday Countdown Calendar. Based on Han Solo’s weapon of choice – the BlasTech Industries DL-44 Heavy Blaster Pistol, this laser pistol was a popular item for kids of the era, and I received mine in 1983 when it was reissued as part of the RETURN OF THE JEDI line. The best part? It still works in 2015, with it’s classic “saw-like” noise, and the body is a relic from a different time – long before orange tips were required – and it’s stamped with “C.P.G. PRODUCTS CORP, 1978 BY ITS DIV. KENNER PRODUCTS, CINCINNATI OHIO.”
