May 14th is an important day in the STAR WARS Universe – the one true day to “thank the maker,” and celebrate the creator. It was on this day back in 1944 that GEORGE LUCAS was born, and as part of the #ForceFridayCountdown Calendar, Hasbro is showcasing the 2006 “George Lucas in Stormtrooper Disguise” action figure from The Saga Collection. Offered-up as an old-school mail-in that required a few bucks and some proofs-of-purchase, I missed out on this one, but George did have his own figure before… actually, twice.
Around the same time that he appeared in Stormtrooper Disguise (like Luke and Han before him), Lucas appeared in plastic as Baron Papanoida in the Lucas Family Collector’s Set, which presented not only the father – but three of his real-life daughters as they appeared in their Prequel-era cameos. While that one also escaped my own collecting habits, as Master Yoda once said, “there is another…”
From STAR WARS CELEBRATION II (held May 3-5, 2002 at Indianapolis Convention Center), the Silver Anniversary of STAR WARS (1977-2002) honored George with the Commander Jorg Sacul action figure – presenting him as a “Force-sensitive Rebel Pilot” that “many say would have become a great Jedi… if only he had been born in a different time.”
