With Spring finally here (hopefully to stay), we’re gearing up for our 2013 Gardening Season here at Rock Father HQ. If you’re a newer reader, you might’ve missed the garden adventures from the past two years, so let me put this simply: Gardening Rocks! There’s nothing better than teaching the little ones how to grow their own food and pretty plants, and it’s something I’m big on here at home. Returning from 2012, GROWUMS are a line of educational growing kits that feature characters like Ice Berg the Lettuce Rapper, Frank Cilantro and Elvis Parsley to help teach kids the ways of the gardening Force. For 2013, they could use a little bit of a boost.
The 2012 growing season was terrible. Our Growums suffered, as did our entire garden. As such, while the folks at Growums were able to get 600,000 kits into the hands of kids across the country, they didn’t end the year as well as they would’ve liked to…
These fun kits are educational and offer a multi-platform approach to learning the ways of gardening. Through all-inclusive kits available in six themes (Taco, Salad, Pizza, Ratatouille, Herb, Stir-Fry), kids can grow their own garden from seeds, then track the progress online while learning even more. The next phase of Growums development includes some enhanced video content, and to get the ball rolling, they’ve set up a Kickstarter Page with some awesome perks you can get if you help the cause. Your contribution will be rewarded. Watch Growums creator Michael Ferraro’s pitch below:

Mike’s Dad (featured in the video above) taught him how to garden, just as I’m teaching my daughters now. I support Growums, and hope that you will too.
