GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY - #OwnTheGalaxy

The MARVEL Cinematic Universe is ever-expanding, and if one thing made solid the fact that audiences are constantly craving more, it’s the intergalactic success brought forth by Peter “Star-Lord” Quill, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Groot and Drax, collectively known as the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. This little-known comic blasted onto screens in August, and since then has pulled in a hefty $771,815,000 globally as of this writing. With the Holiday Season upon us, kids and grownups alike are ready re-live the adventures of the Milano crew again and again, and this week that becomes possible with the release of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY (GOTG) on Blu-ray and DVD, available at Walmart. But the adventure doesn’t stop with the movie, it begins there! As my kids know, any day is perfect to pop on the Awesome Mix Vol. 1 (ZinePak Edition) and have an adventure with our Guardians figures and vehicles.

The girls and I have been facing off against Ronan and Nebula on a regular basis, with our Big Blastin’ Rocket Raccoon and assorted figures from Hasbro always ready and eager to fight the good fight. We’ve flown missions in the Milano, the ship piloted by Star-Lord himself, while Rocket and Groot keep watch for the baddies. Our super-articulated MARVEL Infinite Legends figures from Hasbro are along for the ride as well, though I have to admit these higher-end “collectibles” tend to get a little bit a lot of time in my office as well (big kid right here).

Some recent additions to our own GOTG collection are the Rocket Raccoon and Groot figures for Disney Infinity 2.0. We’ve been rockin’ the MARVEL Edition for a few months now, and I sorta felt bad that I’d been telling Addie “no” (a rare statement from yours truly) about picking up that Rocket figure. But this week (December 7-13), Walmart has a deal where if you pick up Drax, Rocket or Groot for Disney Infinity 2.0 at the regular price of $13.96 each, they’ll toss in a $5 Gift Card automatically at checkout (great stocking stuffers!). Then Little Finley grabbed the new HOT WHEELS GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Rocket’s Tailspin Takedown track set by Mattel, and after Addie looked at the new Hasbro display that’s rolled in, we had to grab the Infinite Rocket, too.

ZinePakSo who’s your favorite member of the GUARDIANS? I can’t really decide my own, but I’m pretty sure that Groot as now edged ahead of Rocket for the top spot. He’s the most adorable tree-like creature to ever grace the silver screen or printed page, and his smile is pretty infectious.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is a perfect gift, and the Walmart Exclusive Edition of the Blu-ray includes an Exclusive Character O-sleeve in one of five designs (pictured below), and they have that sweet Exclusive ZinePak Edition of the AWESOME MIX VOL. 1 – which includes the film soundtrack bundled with a 64-page magazine with cast and crew interviews, exclusive behind-the-scenes photos and trivia PLUS a custom “cassette” laptop decal.

PS: And yes, that is a “Christmas Rocket Raccoon” in that collage up-top, but you can’t buy him like that – you have to get creative like we did! Wanna see my Christmas Rocket bigger? He isn’t holding his big blaster – he’s holding presents!
