Since the late 1800’s, Nesting Dolls have been a staple of childhood play – dating back to early examples in Russia (Matryoshka Dolls). In recent years, these dolls that tuck one inside another from large to small, have been seeing renewed popularity not only as toys, but as collectibles. Produced in plastic in lieu of wood, they’re affordable, space-saving, and with the right artwork – can capture pop culture icons in new and fun ways. From PPW Toys comes a new collection of STAR WARS Nesting Dolls – sets of five that are available in different themes. The Empire, The Rebellion, Jabba’s Palace and a Jedi & Droids set are all out now (or coming soon), while other sets might be revealed in the months ahead. We went hands-on with The Rebellion (Han Solo, Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, Princess Leia and an Ewok) here at Rock Father HQ, and I’m recommending them as an official pick in my 2015 Holiday Wish Guide!

While I like placing our set on a shelf in my office, the Ages 3+ notation has proven true. Of The Rock Daughters, it’s 3-year-old Finley that loves the Nesting Dolls. It’s not been uncommon to see them interacting with other figures and dolls here at our house, being used just as Nesting Dolls were intended to be… as toys.
