We’re truly living in a Golden Age of children’s television, and while there’s many great programming options for kids that provide valuable lessons for families, few will likely establish the kind of long-term lasting impact that Doc McStuffins has. I’ve written about the series many times over the past four years, and now, with its latest iteration – Doc McStuffins: Toy Hospital – making a splash on Disney Junior, there’s new adventures to be had on-screen and off. The series has inspired a generation, and our oldest daughter is a prime example – a seven-year-old who wishes to become a doctor and has taken what she’s learned from little Dottie McStuffins and her friends, and has applied it to other areas of play. She wants to help people, and know the “how and why” to the way things are. For my 2016 Holiday Wish Guide™, I’m showing you the best of the latest Doc McStuffins toys – hand-picked by The Rock Daughters™
Doc McStuffins: Toy Hospital DVD (Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment)
Welcome to McStuffinsville: It’s a big “promotion” for Doc as she makes the jump from running a small clinic in her backyard to being the Chief Resident at her own Toy Hospital in McStuffinsville! After a big secret is revealed (Grandma McStuffins gave Doc her magical stethoscope and knows its power), Doc and her crew are swept into the magical world of McStuffinsville – a town where all the residents are toys! There’s new challenges to be had with familiar faces in new places.
Includes the “Welcome to McStuffinsville” full-length adventure, plus “Baby McStuffins/Selfless Snowman”; “Runaway Love/Tour De McStuffins”; “Bringing Home Baby”; “Baby Names/Night Night, Lala!”
Doc McStuffins Toy Hospital Care Cart (Just Play)
While there’s many different items available to fit certain play patterns, for our oldest daughter, Addie (7), it’s the “role play” items that really hit the mark. She doesn’t want to play doctor, she wants to be the doctor, and the rolling Toy Hospital Care Cart is the next evolution in that play.
Perfect on its own or as a companion to other toys (like the Check-up Station that I have on good authority was hunted for by Santa late at night for weeks three years ago), the Doc Mobile from two years ago, or last year’s Take Care of Me Lambie, the Care Cart is the perfect mobile solution for making the rounds to check-up on all those toys. There’s storage space for tools, an talking “EKG” meter and printout, blood pressure cuff, a patient bed and more – all packed into a relatively space-saving design. When the toys first hit shelves, this was the one that Addie wanted, and she loves it.
Doc McStuffins Toy Hospital Playset (Just Play)
For our youngest daughter (4), action figures, vehicles and playsets are the primary interest, and when it comes to big playsets, Just Play has been knocking it out of the park (they have three on this year’s Wish Guide – Doc McStuffins, PJ Masks and The Lion Guard). By packing maximum play into sizable sets while keeping the cost affordable (you should be able to find this one on-sale for around $50), kids can have endless adventure.
Here we have two-story playset (three, if you count the roof), that includes several rooms, a helipad on the roof for Rescue Rhonda (also included – and she seats Doc), rocking cribs, a talking X-ray machine, a tower-based command center, working elevator, a Pet Vet area, reception desk and more. It also includes a Chief Resident Doc figure, along with Lambie in a lab coat and Baby Cece.
Doc McStuffins just received a fifth season greenlight on Disney Junior, and creator Chris Nee is also working on her next series for the network, Vampirina (based on the book, Vampirina Ballerina). In years to come, new generations will be ready to discover Doc McStuffins’ world of friendship and caring for others.
