Holiday Wish Guide: MEGA Bloks Hello Kitty – Fun at the Fair

This article is more than 10 years old and may not have been updated since our last site redesign. It may contain outdated information or could be missing images.

Holiday Wish GuideWith HELLO KITTY celebrating her 40th Anniversary this year, it’s almost a wonder that I haven’t featured more of Sanrio’s biggest star here on the site. After all, my girls have more HELLO KITTY stuff than I can count, from clothes to plushies, DVDs to toothbrushes… and a few of the MEGA Bloks sets that have been coming out over the past couple of years. The latest of the bunch is one that MEGA Brands sent us for review, the HELLO KITTY Fun at the Fair Set (10956), a 233-piece affair geared toward builders ages 5-12. Well-received here at Rock Father HQ and built with assistance from yours truly, this new one lands firmly in my 2014 Holiday Wish Guide.

Whenever I discuss building sets – regardless of brand – I always stress that you must… absolutely, must separate and organize your blocks by color prior to starting your build. I’ve spoken to many parents, and have run across it online where folks express frustration over finding pieces. Take a few minutes to organize, and it’s clear sailing.

While the HELLO KITTY Fun at the Fair set is not a particularly lengthy nor challenging build, it’s fun and the fact that it combines two things that most kids love – HELLO KITTY and CARNIVALS – pushes it into a unique space. With a Ferris Wheel sort-of ride, a duck Merry-Go-Round, and even a couple of Midway-style games of skill, there’s a lot of space for big imagination here.

Available from Amazon.com and other retailers.

BONUS: Look who showed up! It’s Tim the Minion from the upcoming MINIONS movie, and part of the #MinionMontage Challenge. While he’s not included with your HELLO KITTY sets, he will be part of the new DESPICABLE ME line from MEGA Bloks.
