I can fully declare that fall is my favorite season of them all. Sure, I do like every season for different reasons at different times, but there’s just something about the switch from summer to fall that makes everything just feel right. I’ve often felt that perhaps my autumn obsession (and that of all-things pumpkin) might be due, in part, to the fact that I’m an October baby – born just days before Halloween. While there’s many things to love about fall, family is a big part of all of it – from visits to the pumpkin patches and apple orchards, to gathering around the table for a great meal. I’ve always been a big breakfast guy, but when the whole family (or the extended family) is home, there’s nothing better on a weekend than to start the day off right… a time to take things beyond “breakfast” and make it a BreakFEAST with Hungry Jack!
With the table and countertops decked-out in natural fall accents like specialty pumpkins and seasonal gourds, it’s easy to offer a variety of items that can really take pancakes and syrup to the next level. From classic, buttermilk pancakes to the kid-favorite Funfetti, variety is a good thing – and when you’re making those pancakes, don’t forget to let the batter sit for a few minutes after mixing to help make them fluffy. You can whip them up as a batch, or made-to-order, something that works great when you have an electric griddle available.
Also be sure to have a variety of Hungry Jack syrups on-hand. Warm them up in the microwave (the bottle is made for that!), and have classic Original Syrup, or choose from varieties like Butter, Cinnamon & Brown Sugar and more. A fun fact for people like me that don’t like messes: there’s an easy-pour cap to keep the syrup on your pancakes, not on the table.
You can also do nice, thick Belgian Waffles, with a waffle maker right there (like a hotel or restaurant breakfast buffet!) to give everyone just what they want.
Add-in the always-great breakfast fruits like strawberry, blueberry and pineapple, along with whipped cream for a finishing touch. Try adding a dollop of whipped cream sprinkled with pumpkin pie spice for a seasonal spin on an old favorite!
I also like to have some scrambled eggs available, along with bacon (turkey bacon for my girls), along with a hot cup of Folgers coffee and a glass of ice cold orange juice. This is my plate:
