Instagram Gets a New Trend: Shoppers “Brag on the Tag” with Big Lots’ Latest Filter

Big Lots has kicked off National Bargain Hunting Week with a daily “Bargain of the Day” promotion, offering shoppers steep discounts on various products. Each day, the retailer will unveil a new deal featuring closeouts, overstocks, and liquidations across categories like furniture, pet accessories, and personal care items. Discounts range from 20-75% off compared to other stores.

“National Bargain Hunting Week, like Big Lots, celebrates savvy shoppers and the thrill they feel when finding a great deal,” says Bruce Thorn, President and CEO, at Big Lots. “It’s the perfect time to seize the savings on sought-after products at below-market prices before they sell through. Just like our bargain-seeking customers, we constantly search for new and exciting bargains, delivering truckloads of new deals to our stores every single week.”

Shoppers eager to be the first to know about these daily deals can sign up for the free BIG Rewards program at biglots.com/rewards. Big Lots also encourages customers to share their bargain finds on social media using the new “Brag on the Tag” filter on Instagram and Facebook.

In conjunction with the promotion, Big Lots released a survey conducted with MarketVision Research that highlights the emotional and habitual motivations behind bargain shopping. The survey, conducted on July 23-24, found that 85% of shoppers enjoy the “thrill of finding deals,” and 62% find bargain shopping therapeutic. A significant 69% of respondents indicated that bargain shopping is a habit. Popular shopping categories include apparel (84%), pantry (78%), seasonal items (78%), décor (75%), furniture (62%), and electronics (60%).

Pantry shopping, in particular, remains a top priority, with 80% of shoppers regularly seeking out pantry bargains at 2-3 retailers within 20 miles of their home. Over half of these shoppers (54%) make 2-3 pantry trips per month, spending around $100 or less on essentials like pasta, flour, sugar, cereal, rice, and soup.

“Managing a household budget in today’s economy can be a challenge, but it’s always exciting to uncover amazing deals and share them with loved ones,” Thorn adds. “Whether it’s restocking the pantry or finding the perfect piece of furniture, we’re dedicated to offering top-quality brands at unbeatable prices. We want every shopping trip, no matter how big or small, to be a brag-worthy experience for our customers.”

National Bargain Hunting Week runs through the end of the week (Aug. 18, 2024), with new deals dropping daily.
