BeastsAwhile back, I posted a giveaway here on The Rock Father that came with a unique method of entry. Instead of just throwing up an entry widget or taking a “like” or a “follow” for the a chance at a prize, I took a cue from the prize itself to accept entries. BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD has garnered four Academy Award Nominations in addition to numerous other noms and wins over the past few months. Since it’s a story about life lessons passed from Father to Child, I asked readers to submit to me a story of a lesson that they’ve learned, or one they’ve passed onto their children. I chose two winners, each of which will soon receive a copy of BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD on Blu-Ray, courtesy of 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. And now, the winning submissions…

“My dad always told me, to believe in myself, no matter what obstacles I may encounter in my life. And never to let anyone discourage me or to allow anyone to hinder me from striving for my goals.  He said that having self esteem is key to success in life. Even in the midst of failure, he said that you still win, because you believe in yourself and you can learn from your failures and mistakes, and grow by them. Thereby making you a stronger individual, despite what people may say. He always told me that “A winner never quits, and a quitter never wins.” That whenever I go to do something, that to do it to the best of my ability and to never give up, no matter what. And even when I fail, that I am still a winner because I tried my very best, and I didn’t quit or give up at the hands of others…hence..”A winner never quits, and a quitter never wins.”Ronald Oliver, California
“Life lesson—

Not to trust anyone.. it landed me 22 months in federal prison.”Steve Weber, Wisconsin
