I don’t know if there’s ever been a definitive study to determine why rockabilly surf punk fits so well with monsters and ghouls, but it most certainly does. Perhaps the most famous example is Jack Marshall’s “Munsters Theme,” but here we are fifty years later and the jams just keep on coming – and the vibe has gone far beyond the beach, with guitarslingers around the globe breaking out those twangy riffs atop bouncing beats and low-end grooves. On Friday the 13th of October, 2017, Russian rockers MESSER CHUPS will release their latest album, Taste the Blood of Guitaracula – a mostly-instrumental collection of 16 songs perfect for the Halloween season. Ahead of its release, here’s a look at the official video for “Midnight Call,” along with “Chupacabra vs. Batman.” Crank it up!
MESSER CHUPS is Svetlana “Zombierella” (bass guitar, vocals, screams), Oleg “Gitaracula” (guitar, horror laugh, video), and Dr. Boris (drums, vocals, howling). The band will be supporting the release of their new album on their upcoming Halloween Howling Tour, which kicks off at Detroit’s annual Halloween masquerade staged at the Masonic Temple’s Theatre Bizarre and concludes on October 28th in San Francisco.
