It was just about a month ago when I posted a blog in support of CAILLOU. The little guy is a longtime fixture here at Rock Father HQ, and like most parents of small children, I’ve seen the available episodes of CAILLOU more times than I can count. I say “available” because all of the episodes haven’t been aired in the U.S., nor are they readily-available on DVD or on-demand in any kind of complete form. Now, PBS KIDS has started airing some “new” episodes of the popular show.
In my last post, I noted that “they don’t really make new episodes” of CAILLOU – and that is true. But the most recent season to be produced (Season 5 – 2010) may never have been shown in the U.S. until now (there’s an extensive episode listing over at TV Guide).
From what I can tell, there was no formal announcement from Cookie Jar Entertainment regarding this batch of episodes, but depending on where you live, they either started running last Monday or today (as they did on WTTW, our local PBS affiliate in Chicago). There’s an immediately notable difference in quality, as I believe this season is the first to be produced in full HD. It’s widescreen, the colors are bright… and so far I dig what I’m seeing. In fact, the little guy even gets introduced to Comic Books in “Caillou Cares,” finding himself obsessed with a “mutant spider from cosmic space.”
