One of the greatest toy lines of all-time is getting a movie. After years of back-and-forth development between a few different companies with multiple attachments in-and-out, PLAYMOBIL: The Movie is on-track for 2019. Deadline broke the news this morning that film from Lino DiSalvo, a Walt Disney Animation Studios vet who previously served as head of animation on Frozen, is casting. Anya Taylor-Joy (The New Mutants), Gabriel Bateman (the upcoming Child’s Play remake), Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), comic Jim Gaffigan (Chappaquiddick) and singers Meghan Trainor and Adam Lambert have all joined the project, which will be told through a mix of live-action and CGI.
PLAYMOBIL: The Movie – Synopsis
The film will follow the adventures of siblings Charlie (Bateman) and Marla (Taylor-Joy). When the former unexpectedly disappears into the animated universe of Playmobil, Marla must go on a quest to bring him home. During her adventures she teams up with some unlikely new friends, including smooth-talking food truck driver Del (Gaffigan), dashing and charismatic secret agent Rex Dasher (Radcliffe), a wholehearted misfit robot and an extravagant fairy-godmother (Trainor). Lambert will voice the character of villain Emperor Maximus.
Due next year, PLAYMOBIL: The Movie also comes alongside news that a new animated television series is also in the works – something that The Rock Daughters™ will really be happy about. They’ve remained bummed that PLAYMOBIL’s Super4 never got a second season on Netflix. In the meantime, the PLAYMOBIL toys continue to impress, with six different offerings making an appearance in the 2018 Holiday Wish Guide™ here on The Rock Father™ Magazine!
