“THE ROCK FATHER is participating in a campaign on behalf of Dad Central Consulting for The Calling Wines. He has received a product sample and promotional item as a thank you for participating.”
Pursuing a passion and inspiring others. Those are two points that sportscaster Jim Nantz and winemaker Peter Deutsch have focused on with THE CALLING, their collaborative effort on bringing fine wines to the world. THE CALLING is a business rooted in Fatherhood, the end result of a perfect meeting – one in which the two men would be introduced at a Greenwich, Connecticut restaurant where they both had been dining with friends. Deutsch had recently read ALWAYS BY MY SIDE, Nantz’ book about his father – and it hit home with him in reminding him of his own Dad. Eventually, the Deutsch-Nantz Alliance (DNA) was born, and the two headed for California, working together to create great wine… wine I’m including here in my #RockFathersDay Gift Guide for 2014.
While I haven’t delved too much into wine coverage here on THE ROCK FATHER, my wife and I do enjoy it often – and there probably has not been a moment in the past fifteen years in which we haven’t had at least a couple of bottles readily available here at home. The folks at DNA sent us a bottle of THE CALLING’s 2012 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir – a rich variety crafted with grapes from the Dutton Ranch in Sonoma wine country.
They consider the 2012 to be “an exceptional vintage,” and while I’m no expert – it’s quite good, this coming from a guy that traditionally has been known to give wines as a gift for holidays and special occasions. THE CALLING is a wine I’d be happy to give (or receive), and even my wife approves – calling their Pinot Noir “quite smooth.” I’m also fond of a great design, and THE CALLING has an attractive label as well, one that Nantz and Deutsch personally worked on to capture the essence of the brand.
