I’ve officially entered “Spring Cleaning” mode here at Rock Father HQ, and that means that beyond my daily routine, I’m also starting to deep clean the things that don’t get regular attention, and I’m trying out some new products. As a work-at-home Dad, my days are largely occupied by the kids. Things can get messy, and since much of the cleaning falls under my direction, I’m always on the lookout for less-toxic options where available. When the folks at New Jersey-based Native Organics asked me to to try out some of their new products, I was certainly interested in giving them a shot.
So-called “green” cleaning products are a mixed bag, and I definitely have my favorites… and some I’ll never buy again. I’ve tried a ton of different brands, and I usually find that each line will have it’s own set of strengths and weaknesses. While a lot of folks that are into the eco-friendly “green” lifestyle won’t admit it, there’s a lot of products out there that you pay a premium for, and frankly, don’t clean nearly as well as their harsher counterparts. So how do Native Organics stack up?
I was sent a bottle of their Window & Glass Cleaner along with a bottle of their Multi-Purpose Cleaner. I’ve been using both here for over a month now, and I do like them. Based of plant material and water, they don’t have much of a “chemical” vibe to them – which is good. On the flipside, they do seem a little “watery,” so I feel like I might be using a little more of them than I would with certain competing brands. While I’ve used both of these in my office and in my kitchen, I figured it was time to do something for illustrative purposes… something that you could “see” right here on my site. We have a black GE stove/oven in our kitchen that gets cleaned (by yours truly) at least once a week. The problem is, it’s gloss black… which shows dust and fingerprints terribly. With the morning sunshine coming in through the kitchen windows, and a fresh spattering from making Flapjacks for Addie (Kodiak Cakes, which we absolutely love) I hit the stove with Native Organics and a roll of paper towels. Native Organics get the job done, and that should be very clear as evidenced in the pictures above. It’s one of my own little quirks, but I like to do the stove twice – first with multi-purpose cleaner, and then with glass cleaner to really “shine it up.” I’ve just always done it that way, and still do.
Both of the Native Organics cleaners that I received normally retail for $4.99 per 32oz bottle, so they’re priced reasonably.
