Summer is Officially Over: Fall Beer is Here…

I was planning on writing this blog a few weeks ago, when as far as I’m concerned, Summer 2012 officially came to an end. The date? August 8. The reason? I picked up a 12-pack of BLUE MOON Brewing Company‘s “Brewmaster’s Autumn Sampler.” If Fall Beer is Here – Summer is over. At least that’s what I told myself.

IMG 9390Last year I started a tradition that will be made official this year: I will attempt to sample any and all Fall Beers that I can get my hands on, this year documenting each different brew right here on The Rock Father website. Oddly enough, I didn’t even really drink beer until a year or two ago, but with age has come the “taste,” and in that a leaning toward the flavors of my favorite season of them all… Fall.

Starting with the “Brewmaster’s Autumn Sampler,” Blue Moon has packed the case with three bottles each of four varieties of beer: Beligian White, Belgian Pale Ale, Harvest Pumpkin Ale, and the newest flavor, the fan-designed Caramel Apple Spiced Ale.

I’m no beer expert, but I cracked open a bottle of the Harvest Pumpkin straight away. Immediately, it was like reconnecting with an old friend as the ceremonial first pumpkin beverage of the Fall season made it’s way into my mouth. The pumpkin-laced goodness was sheer delight.

With the Belgian White and Belgian Pale Ale being “normal” offerings (I’m drinking the latter as I type), the real highlight of this assortment is the Limited Autumn Release of the Caramel Apple Spiced Ale. In title alone it’s intriguing – inspiring the mind to wonder just how the flavors of a crisp, caramel apple will mesh with the golden brew. The result is a pleasing blend of flavors, and the first to be depleted from the assortment. The caramel and apple flavors are light – not overbearing the beer at all, but enhancing it. Personally, I’d probably turn up those flavors a tad in the mix, but what they’ve crafted is tasty. Officially, Blue Moon starts the Fall Beer Season on August 31, to celbrate the Lunar Blue Moon.

So what say you, fellow parents and non-parents alike? Is anyone else as excited for Fall (or Fall Beers) as I? Starbucks brings back the Pumpkin Spice Latte on September 4th…
