When you think of the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, certain elements tend to stand out more than others, and one of those things is Pizza! Ask any kid to tell you what a Ninja Turtle eats, and it’s pretty much guaranteed that they’ll only be able to give you one answer. Over the years, there have been many cross-promotional TMNT pizza tie-ins, with a Domino’s driver appearing in the 1990 film, a mention of Pizza Hut in the 2014 film, and even frozen pizzas sold on the East Coast by Ellio’s that were TMNT-branded. First-released last fall as a tie-in for the hit Nickelodeon TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES series, Wicked Cool Toys’ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pizza Oven lets kids made their own, personal, snack-sized pizzas pretty-much from scratch!
The folks at Wicked Cool are well-versed in the kid’s oven game, known for making the Girl Scout Cookie Oven (we have that one, too – both sent for review) which this is very similar to. You pre-heat the oven while prepping the pizzas. The oven comes with supplies to make two little pizzas (refill packs are available), including dough mix, sauce mix, and cheese (essentially Parmesan sprinkles). You’ll need some stuff you probably already have in your kitchen, including a couple of mixing bowls, a spoon, a cup of water, ketchup, measuring spoons and some non-stick spray (we use the Crisco spray).
The pizzas that we’ve made here at Rock Father HQ certainly aren’t a meal, but for some snack-sized fun, they’re pretty cool and the kids like making them. While we haven’t tried it yet, a few folks have mentioned making even better-tasting pizzas using name-brand dough mix powder, a jarred sauce of your choice, and some real cheese sprinkles. We just might do that and revisit this post down the road.
The TMNT Pizza Oven is available from major retailers nationwide.
