THE BOOGERS – ROAD TO ROCK (2008, Album Review)

About a month or so ago, while perusing Facebook and probably posting The Rock Father™ propaganda wherever appropriate, a message appeared to my attention from a gentleman named Crusty Booger. Little did the moisture-devoid poster know, but I was already somewhat aware of his rock prowess. Somewhere deep within the depths of Berwyn, Illinois – home to Horrorbles, Svengoolie, and the late Spire (a stack of impaled cars) is THE BOOGER PLANT – the sonic batcave of THE BOOGERS, purveyors of kid-friendly punk rock jams.

boogers road coverThe creation of Crusty’s alter-ego, Paul Crowe (Ph.D in Developmental Psychology and father of two), THE BOOGERS channel the stylings of THE RAMONES through original songs, re-worked traditional arrangements, and creative covers.

Released in 2008, ROAD TO ROCK is 20-track collection of songs that range from just 0:19 to 2:51 in length, bringing the entire affair to a close in just over 26 minutes. My 2½-year-old daughter was quick to take notice of the inclusion of a few of her favorites when Twinkle Twinkle (yep, Little Star) and the ever-popular The Wheels on the Bus popped up. Toss in a little healthy discussion of some popular foods like Peanut Butter and Bananas (thankfully, not together like Elvis dug), and there’s a lot of excitement at hand.

Fish Will Fly brings Thomas the Tank Engine into the mix, and while I have some personal issues with Thomas and the Island of Sodor in general (we’ll discuss that later), the Sprout-watching crowd will appreciate the mention. So far, one of the oft-repeated tracks here in our house is The ABC Song, which delivers the alphabet in just 19 seconds of foot-stomping goodness.

Bottom line?

ROAD TO ROCK is a legitimately authentic punk rock record that kids of all ages will be thrilled to slam, pogo, and sing along with.
