As a grownup, one thing I really wish I had the skill to do is fix up some old cars and take them out for a little old-school racing action. The only engine that I ever personally rebuilt was one for a go-kart, and I did that back in high school. I wish I’d learned more years back, but one thing I know for sure is that it’s not only vehicles that can be “Made to Race,” but people as well. Looking back, I’m fairly confident that I was #MADEtoRACE from the get-go – circa 1976. Just look at that little Renault Racing suit…
My first races were on Big Wheels, and I’d take to the tack at Joliet Memorial Stadium for special halftime Big Wheel races that I was barely big enough to do – if only because my dad was announcing UARA or World of Outlaw Midgets (WOOM) at the time.
Now I’ve got two little girls who’ve caught a little bit of that “need for speed” bug, and in writing about cars here on the site from time to time, I’ve been fortunate enough to indulge in a little racing action as a grownup… behind the wheel of a Ferrari while wearing a Disney•Pixar CARS Lightning McQueen shirt, since I’m still just a big kid.
