THE ROCK FATHER: ASSIGNMENT MIAMI BEACH #PBSam

This article is more than 11 years old and may not have been updated since our last site redesign. It may contain outdated information or could be missing images.

PBS KIDS VIPIf you’re reading this midday on May 13, 2013… just know that I’m currently sitting in the aisle seat of a Boeing 737 en route to Miami. Thanks to internet magic, The Rock Father website continues posting new content even when I’m away, and that’s just another example of technology at it’s finest. This week’s adventure is taking me to the PBS Annual Meeting. It’s my first trip ‘as’ “The Rock Father” – and only the third time since becoming a parent nearly four years ago that I’ve actually gone away on business… or been away from my family.

The first trip was in October of 2009 when I went to Las Vegas to work with SLIPKNOT for a weekend (Addie was just two-months old). My second was in 2011 to direct a music video in Ohio for the band PRODUCT OF HATE. My third is happening right now.

The big difference? This trip is fueled by my kids.

Those of you that read my writings regularly know that I’m a huge fan of PBS, and that their PBS KIDS programming lineup is a daily staple here at Rock Father HQ. I grew up on the classics like SESAME STREET, MISTER ROGERS’ NEIGHBORHOOD and READING RAINBOW. Now, my girls are growing up with DANIEL TIGER’S NEIGHBORHOOD, CAILLOU, CURIOUS GEORGE, and as it prepares to enter it’s 44th season, SESAME STREET. Our love for PBS KIDS runs deep, and it all came full circle when the folks at PBS asked me to become a PBS KIDS VIP (Very Involved Parent) Blogger a few months back. PBS KIDS has assembled a team of fantastic bloggers from across the country, and I’m honored to be a part of it.

This week, I’ll be joining some of the other PBS KIDS VIPs to get an inside look at the future of the great educational entertainment on-deck from PBS KIDS. We’ll be taking a look at the new math-based series PEG + CAT, meeting with the creative forces behind other great shows, and… I may finally get a proper answer about “how to get to Sesame Street.” There’s even more happening… but I’m not about to reveal all just yet.

While my more “formal” coverage will be coming to this very site in the near future, please follow me on twitter for real-time updates as they happen. There’s some exciting stuff about to go down.
