The Ultimate Shopping Guide for Large Adult Sons

We’re toward the end of holiday shopping madness. Across the country (and the web), people are fighting to find the best deals for toys, gadgets, and other must-have gifts before Christmas Eve. Buying for your spouse, your young children, and your siblings can be easy. But buying for a large adult son in his 20s or 30s? That’s a little trickier.

He’s not in college anymore, so you can’t just get him another year’s supply of ramen noodles and some extra pairs of sweat pants. He’s likely moved out and started his professional career, meaning he can buy all the essentials he needs, hopefully. That being said, he probably doesn’t buy too many gifts for himself. That’s where you come in this holiday season.

When thinking about what to buy your adult son, first, consider his grooming habits. It sounds strange, but if your son has cologne from when he was still in high school, a faulty razor, or some other lesser quality grooming products — that can be a great holiday purchase. In fact, men’s grooming has become a major trend this year.

Getting your son a brand-new electric razor or a wood beard comb can be a great gift, enabling him to take much better care of his beard. According to a Statista survey, 18% of respondents reported using beard care products every day. Additionally, there are beard oils, brushes, and other beard and skincare products that can help him look his best and stand out in his professional career.

“A great skincare set is important for all men,” said style icon Tan France, the “Queer Eye” star and American Eagle stylist.

In addition to beard care and grooming products, there are plenty of other gifts that your adult son will absolutely love this Christmas. Here are some of the best holiday gifts, gadgets, and gear for guys:

  • Electric toothbrush
  • Louis Vuitton Ombre Nomade Fragrance
  • Tile Pro Series Classic wallet finder
  • AncestryDNA kit
  • Touchscreen leather driving gloves
  • Square portable bluetooth speaker
  • Bose QuetComfort wireless headphones
  • Radiate portable campfire
  • Electric car blanket
  • 3-piece BBQ set
  • Car charger
  • Modern snap backback
  • Personalized gold cufflinks
  • Customizable outdoor wooden cooler

If none of these material things makes an impression on you, you can always go for something a little more personal. For instance, consider giving the gift of a beloved family dessert recipe. Americans say their three favorite pie flavors are apple (47%), pumpkin (37%), and chocolate cream (32%). If your adult son has a favorite pie or homemade dessert, then he’s old enough to carry on the tradition himself from now on. Bake his favorite dessert for Christmas and give him the gift of a recipe he’ll always cherish.

Of course, if you still can’t make up your mind, you can always fall back on the old standby: the trusty gift certificate. It may not be the most personal gift, but considering that the typical American eats out an average of 4.5 times per week, it’s a practical gift that won’t sit on the closet shelf gathering dust until Christmas 2019.

Have you already done your Christmas shopping for the year? What do you recommend last-minute shoppers consider for their adult children?
