We’ve cleared the halfway mark for the second season of ABC‘s slightly retooled version of THE TOY BOX and this coming Sunday we’ll get a look at a fresh batch of toys from a new crop of hopeful toy inventors. This week we’ve got yet another toy that first hit my radar some years back – “My Doll Room,” which was previously marketed as “American Doll Room.” Geared toward 18″ dolls, it’ll be interesting to see how that fares when put in front of Mattel, makers of American Girl. Check out the full rundown on all seven toys competing this week…

THE TOY BOX #204

THE TOY BOX – “Episode 204” – From light-up Frisbees and a camping trip board game to hybrid mythical creatures and more, amateur inventors enthusiastically present their toys to a panel of kid judges, on an all-new episode of ABC’s “The Toy Box,” airing SUNDAY, OCTOBER 29 (7:00-8:00 p.m. EDT), on The ABC Television Network. (ABC/Richard Cartwright) MADISON STEVENS, SYDNEY MAE ESTRELLA, DOYLE PERRY (ARCHIPELAGOLF), ADI ASH, ERIC STONESTREET, JOACHIM POWELL, GIDEON REYNOLDS

THE TOY BOX Week Four (#204) Airdate 10/29/2017

  • Glow Flyer – a light-up Frisbee that changes colors when you play with it. Inventors: Michael and Michael from Clifton Park, New York

  • My Doll Room – a portable, collapsible dollhouse with different decorating options. Inventors: Rory and Molly from Lakeville, Connecticut

  • Robomustache – a collection of wooden robot craft kits. Inventor: Charles from Asheboro, North Carolina

  • Tournament of Towers – a competitive, point-driven tower building game. Inventors: Donovan and Jeff from Los Angeles, California

  • Hybrid Creatures – dolls that represent combinations of different animals and mythical creatures . Inventor: Pamela from Pleasant Grove, Utah

  • Camp Outrageous – an outdoorsy board game where players race to be the first to complete a campgrounds-inspired obstacle course. Inventor: Thom from Chicago, Illinois

  • Archipelagolf – a reimagined portable golf set in which a ball launcher is used instead of golf clubs. Inventor: Doyle from Clovis, California

At the end of the eight-week competition series, one grand prize winner (who will also score a cool $100K) will see their toy manufactured by Mattel to be sold exclusively at Toys “R’ Us. As noted in season one, there’s some fine print in which Mattel has the option to produce other worthy toys along the way. Last season, the Artsplash took the top prize, yet the Sweet Shaper and Noisy Persons also popped up on Toys “R” Us shelves. And, as I’m sure some will note, Toys “R” Us recently filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection, it’s currently “business as usual” in their stores, and that will likely not have any impact on availability of these toys as they move through restructuring.

THE TOY BOX airs Sunday nights at 7/6c on ABC.
