I don’t know that moving ABC‘s slightly retooled version of THE TOY BOX to Sunday nights has been a good decision. The first season premiere last spring captured the attention of some 4 million+ viewers, but the remaining episodes bottomed-out around 2.4M. Now, three episodes into a new season with new judges and an altered format (gone are the “mentors), The Toy Box is averaging right around 2 million viewers a week, which isn’t much in the grand scheme of things.  Still, there’s another five weeks to go, and her at Rock Father HQ, our girls have really become invested in it – to the point of cheering things on, while blasting others. I’m biased, but The Rock Daughters™ should really be on the judging panel if the show gets picked up for Season Three (which has been in-development, but the ratings slide could nix that). Curious what new toys will be going in front of the judges this Sunday? Here’s a preview!

The Toy Box #207

THE TOY BOX – “Episode 207” – An interactive fitness game, a portable version of table tennis, a life-size fidget toy and more compete for a chance to win big, on an all-new episode of ABC’s “The Toy Box,” airing SUNDAY, OCTOBER 22 (7:00-8:00 p.m. EDT), on The ABC Television Network. (ABC/Richard Cartwright) EMMA SOBEL, ADI ASH, JOACHIM POWELL, ERIC STONESTREET, PAXTON BOOTH, OLIVIA TRUJILLO

THE TOY BOX Week Four (#207) Airdate 10/22/2017

  • Playout – a multiplayer exercise card game that turns fitness into an interactive, competitive game
    Inventor: Eddie from Atlanta, Georgia

  • Pillow Fight Pals – fun-shaped plush pillows that turn your pillow fights up a notch by glowing in the dark and making fun sounds when you squeeze them. Inventor: Kyla from Phoenix, Arizona

  • Mind Games – a multiplayer game where you must step on a given number of toy domes and avoid stepping on the dome that sounds off the alarm. Inventor: Marvin from Los Angeles, California

  • Flexxball – a portable and space-saving version of table tennis that challenges players’ hand-eye coordination. Inventors: Sanel and Priyam from Chicago, Illinois

  • Technochic – DIY tech-craft kits that come with basic craft and electronic components to create and design wearable light-up creations. Inventor: Natasha from Jersey City, New Jersey

  • Hovercraft – a build-it-yourself, remote-controlled water hovercraft that offers both a learning experience and a fun toy. Inventor: Bob from Cordova, Illinois

  • Fidget Flow Toy – a life-size fidget toy that can be changed into all different shapes and sizes. Inventor: Jennifer from Saranac, Michigan

At the end of the eight-week competition series, one grand prize winner (who will also score a cool $100K) will see their toy manufactured by Mattel to be sold exclusively at Toys “R’ Us. As noted in season one, there’s some fine print in which Mattel has the option to produce other worthy toys along the way. Last season, the Artsplash took the top prize, yet the Sweet Shaper and Noisy Persons also popped up on Toys “R” Us shelves. And, as I’m sure some will note, Toys “R” Us recently filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection, it’s currently “business as usual” in their stores, and that will likely not have any impact on availability of these toys as they move through restructuring.

THE TOY BOX airs Sunday nights at 7/6c on ABC.
