TRANSFORMERS: Hasbro invites kids and fans to help design a new Autobot or Decepticon!

TRANSFORMERS will be celebrating their 30th Anniversary next year (I have many Transformers stories to share), and to kick things off, for the first time ever, Hasbro  (NASDAQ: HAS) is inviting kids and longtime fans to help design a new Transformers character that will forever become a part of TF lore. The “Fan Built Bot” promotion officially starts today, and in the end… the new character created with input from the world will be made into an action figure that will be offered in the 2014 “Thrilling 30” line of toys.

“Since 1984, the TRANSFORMERS brand has been bringing entertainment and excitement to kids and fans with our beloved characters like BUMBLEBEE and OPTIMUS PRIME. We invite all fans to help us kick off the 30th anniversary of TRANSFORMERS with a new character of their choice — for the first time in history. This is the perfect way to kick off our anniversary celebration and the ‘Thrilling 30’ line of special edition figures. It will be tremendous fun for everyone to keep track of the entire process from the designing of the character; leading up to its introduction as a toy and watching it become a part of the TRANSFORMERS brand.”Jay Duke, vice president of the TRANSFORMERS brand at Hasbro

Votes will be determining everything from the new character being an AUTOBOT or DECEPTICON—to its vehicle or other mode, color, personality and more. Additionally, Hasbro tells The Rock Father that information on the naming process will also be revealed shortly… and will also involve TRANSFORMERS fans. Results for the whole thing will be revealed at this year’s Comic-Con International (SDCC ’13) in San Diego.

I’m excited that the 30th Anniversary is approaching (despite it making me feel old), and one thing a lot of you that read The Rock Father might not know is that I actually own one of the rarest (if not the rarest) TRANSFORMERS in the world… a Chrome Optimus Prime that was handcrafted by the Hasbro Design Team for the 2007 Michael Bay Movie. It was presented to me for a TF-themed video I did for G4, and was actually announced by Kevin Pereira on Attack of the Show (a show I already miss).
