Last summer, I found myself in Anaheim, California during one of the incredible adventures that I sometimes get to have as part of my work. Since our first daughter was born in 2009, I have largely been an “at-home dad,” shifting many of my powers toward domestic duties while my wife maintains a career outside the home. There are occasions, however, where I spring into action for a special mission, usually hopping on a plane and leaving our Third Coast home en route to the East or West Coast (mostly West). For the D23 Expo in Anaheim, I was working with Disney and wound up there in the room when a select audience got to see the very first footage from Disney•Pixar’s The Incredibles 2. Later, I called my wife in Illinois and told her that what I saw was like watching our lives unfold on-screen… maybe sans the laser vision, but definitely the messes. Oh yes, those incredible messes!
Last summer, I was in the room at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California when Walt Disney Animation Studios dropped the curtain on the first footage from Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2. Like a few other things (such as Jon Favreau's The Lion King and the upcoming "planes in space" thing), that footage has remained under wraps. Sure, we got a teaser trailer back in February, but there was something really buzzed-about that was missing: Disney Princesses and Star Wars. As I mentioned last July when all of the living voices behind the Disney Princesses took the stage at D23, indeed, they're all there - and R2-D2 and C-3PO, too! But that's not all, and now you're finally getting a taste (Infinity Gauntlet). Check out the new trailer for Ralph Breaks the Internet below!
In 2019, Star Wars Celebration will return and it's celebrating its 20th Anniversary right here in my home town of Chicago! That's right, ReedPop (the folks behind the fantastic C2E2) and Lucasfilm will bring Star Wars Celebration to McCormick place April 11-15, 2019. The full website and details will be coming soon, with tickets going on-sale June 5, 2018 at noon CST. The announcement was made on this week's installment of The Star Wars Show, and you can bet I will be spending quite a bit of time in the City proper come next April. In the meantime, check this out...
Disney•Pixar is kicking off the one-month countdown to the theatrical opening for Incredibles 2, and they're doing it with style! Today, 25 content creators are dusting off their super suits to join filmmakers and fans to celebrate INCREDIBLES DAY. Throughout the day, fans will get a look at new Incredibles 2 content and product, have the chance to win prizes, and get exclusive access to Pixar Animation Studios to watch content creators from around the world take part in film-themed challenges on Facebook. Written and directed by Brad Bird, Disney•Pixar’s Incredibles 2 opens June 15—tickets are on sale now at Fandango.
It's about one o'clock in the afternoon here at my home in northern Illinois. The spring weather is late-breaking, but with it being a sunny and clear 63° outside, I've got the kitchen windows open as I sip my early afternoon coffee... from a mug shaped like Thanos' Infinity Gauntlet. My life continues to take me to interesting places, and they're often very quick trips that are packed with activities and excitement, usually ending with a red eye flight back to Chicago and back to reality. On Monday night, I walked the Purple Carpet at the World Premiere of Marvel Studios' Avengers: Infinity War... sat in the front row of the Dolby Theatre in a seat once occupied by Leonardo DiCaprio... and sipped a martini as an invited guest at the official after party.
When Star Wars Rebels came to a close at the end of its fourth season earlier this year, many were left wondering what our next animated adventure could be. Speculation was fueled after Lucasfilm job listings were posted for storyboard artists and directors (which could've also been for many projects), but now we have definitive word on what's coming next. Production has begun on STAR WARS RESISTANCE, "an exciting new animated adventure series about Kazuda Xiono, a young pilot recruited by the Resistance and tasked with a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order." Set in the era prior to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the series will premiere this fall on Disney Channel in the U.S. and, thereafter, on Disney XD around the world.
