STAR WARS 40th AnniversaryAs we enter 2017, we're now less than five months away from the 40th Anniversary of George Lucas' 1977 Star Wars: A New Hope. One of the looming, and most often-asked questions here at Rock Father HQ pertains to an area of my specialty, and that's toys. "What new toys are on the way for Star Wars' 40th Anniversary?" Quite simply, I don't know... yet - but I do have some ideas for how it'll all go down.

Entertainment Earth Gareth Edwards' Rogue One: A Star Wars Story continues to dominate the box office in the days post-Christmas, and as the film continues to take audiences back to a galaxy far, far away, there's more fun to be had in action figure form. The third wave of Hasbro's Rogue One 3 ¾" action figures is starting to make its way to retail, and while it's often difficult to find the full assortment just hanging on the pegs at your local store, my allies at Entertainment Earth (one of my sponsors) have just received a shipment of the new wave - "Hot Off the Truck!" These are sold as case packs, so you get two of each figure (split it with a friend?), and this assortment is a good one - evenly balanced, and featuring new characters from Rogue One, along with a pair of fan favorites from Disney XD's Star Wars Rebels. Holiday Wish Guide: Disney's Elena of Avalor

Presented in Partnership with The Walt Disney Company...

One of the most inspiring new series' for kids to emerge in the past year is Disney's Elena of Avalor. The first Latin-inspired Disney Princess was an immediate hit, quickly becoming a fixture at Disney Parks, and becoming one of Disney Channel's most-watched animated shows. After being held captive in the Amulet of Avalor for over four decades, Elena was freed by Sofia the First and has returned to her kingdom as a brave and adventurous teenager who must now learn to rule as crown princess until she is old enough to be queen. As kids follow Elena's journey, they see the adventure unfold as she learns her to understand that her new role requires thoughtfulness, resilience and compassion, the traits of all truly great leaders. With Elena of Avalor: Ready to Rule now available on DVD, here's a look at some great gift ideas as part of my 2016 Holiday Wish Guide!

2017 is going to be a massive year at the movies, and on June 23rd it's the Autobots vs. Decepticons once more as Transformers: The Last Knight hits theaters. The fifth film in the live-action franchise based on the iconic Hasbro toys finds filmmaker Michael Bay back at the helm with a cast that includes Mark Wahlberg, Josh Duhamel, Anthony Hopkins, Laura Haddock, Isabella Moner, Stanley Tucci and John Turturro. As a huge fan of the Transformers overall, this one is one of my most-anticipated films for the coming year, and tonight Paramount Pictures unleashed the first teaser trailer. Check it out...

With so many new toys vying for the attention of kids and parents each and every year, it's always interesting to take note of some true classics that have been able to stand the test of time.  100 years ago, John Lloyd Wright (son of noted architect Frank Lloyd Wright) created what would eventually be known as Lincoln Logs - a toy that I had as a child, and one that The Rock Daughters™ play with now. In fact, I still have my Lincoln Logs from the 70s, and that was the door-opener for what I'd call "The Original STEM Toy." Officially, K'NEX (current maker of Lincoln Logs) calls them "America's National Toy," and that's cool, too - especially since they're once again MADE IN THE USA, and for 2016 they've secured a spot in my annual Holiday Wish Guide™ here on THE ROCK FATHER™ Magazine...
