Just for the record, it is 2018. I know it might be a little bit confusing at times, and since this past week has brought us news on the return of Murphy Brown, The Greatest American Hero, Charmed and the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, I have something else to go with another bit of news that just hit my inbox – some new colors of Tamagotchi are shipping now (seriously). Darrin Kenneth O’Brien, the Canadian reggae-rapper better-known as SNOW, is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the release of “INFORMER” with a new recording of the 1993 hit. “Informer 2018 (Audiofreaks Mix)” was just released on all digital platforms via Radikal Records, and you can stream it now in the Soundcloud player below…
The lead single from his debut album, 12 Inches of Snow, “Informer” was written by Snow, M.C. Shan, and Edmond Leary. The album sold over 8 million records worldwide and was certified RIAA Platinum in the U.S. and CRIA Triple Platinum in Canada. The song also made U.S. history by landing in the Guinness Book of World Records as the best-selling and the highest-charting reggae single ever.
Bonus: Curious what “Informer” would sound like if given a more metallic treatment? Last year, Leo Moracchioli of Norway’s Frog Leap Studios re-worked the song to answer that very question. Check that one out below…
