Roughly a decade ago, I got an email from a rep at Metal Blade Records (oh hey, Carine!). She asked if I’d be interested in speaking with ALLEGAEON‘s lead singer, the one and only Ezra Haynes.
Knowing nothing about the band at the time, I said yes. Why not, right? Fast-forward to now: There’s a new album, The Ossuary Lens (out now via Metal Blade Records), and yeah — I’ve been a fan ever since that first chat. Their sound and lyrics grabbed me instantly.
The band’s sheer might hit me like Molecule Man dropping a mountain range on our heroes in Marvel’s Secret Wars. I was hooked from the jump. So, the big question is: Does this new album measure up?
Welp, maybe I’m deranged (R.I.P. Doc Holliday), but… HELL YEAH IT DOES.
This record has rows of teeth, with about seven bunkers’ worth of ordinance to back it up. In other words: it’s ferocious. Fact.
There’s plenty to sink your teeth into, starting with “Carried by Delusion,” an immediate favorite that finds guitarists Greg Burgess and Michael Stancel lighting up their fretboards like they’re on fire. That same energy flows into “Dark Matter Dynamics,” where bassist Brandon Michael and drummer Jeff Saltzman set the fuse for one of the most explosive tracks of 2025. For real.
Let’s also talk about “Driftwood” and “The Swarm,” two more absolute crushers that’ll have you spitting teeth like sunflower seeds.
Then there’s “Scythe,” which brings the roof down like the final act of a Jason Statham movie — and yes, we love that. Haynes delivers inspired vocals throughout, flipping from melody to growl in a blink.
All told, The Ossuary Lens is a full-throttle win from first note to last. ALLEGAEON’s latest is out now, so really — what are you waiting for? Crank it up.
