Album Review: REVOLUTION SAINTS — ‘Against the Winds’

Filed Under:

Published:

Truth be told I’ve been a REVOLUTION SAINTS fan since they first came out. Deen Castronovo on drums AND lead vocals?? Sign me up!! All you have to do is check out him singing “Mother, Father” from when he plays with JOURNEY to understand how great he is.

That aside, on this new album Against the Winds (Frontiers Music) the band sounds different, yet the same. With Castronovo still firmly in the driver’s seat, things are a wee bit different these days. Where once was Jack Blades and Doug Aldrich (bass and guitar) we now have Jeff Pilson and Joel Hoekstra.

Same instruments, but a different feel/vibe, whatever you wanna call it. As much as I am a fan of Mark I, the prospect of this Mark II is beyond exciting! And that really jumped out at me with “Will I See You Again!” Not surprisingly, this was my favorite.

Elsewhere there is greatness afoot with “Show Me Your Light,” the high octane “Save All That Remains,” and the title track and album opener “Against the Winds.” The bottom line is this: REVOLUTION SAINTS are here to stay, and let’s hope we have many more albums that I get to review!
