There’s that meme that always floats around – you know the one, with Fry from FUTURAMA, eagerly waving a stack of bills with the caption, “SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!” That’s sort of where I am with this – a longtime CALL OF DUTY and XBOX loyalist, taking a peek at the press release for CALL OF DUTY: ADVANCED WARFARE, that landed in my inbox from Activision yesterday. Available on November 4, and developed for “next gen” consoles (Xbox One, Playstation 4) and PC, the next installment of the storied CALL OF DUTY franchise looks like nothing that’s come before it. And it’s got Kevin Spacey playing the lead. Take a look at the reveal trailer below, and then I’ll talk some more…

The bottom line for me is that I need to get an Xbox One.
I’ve been a hold-out, still doing just fine with my Xbox 360 (which I still don’t get to play as much as I’d like), but by creating this game quite under-the-radar, as part of a three-year development window led by first-time COD studio Sledgehammer Games, Activision seems to be pushing me toward that “next-gen” leap. Here’s what they have to say about the game…
CALL OF DUTY: ADVANCED WARFARE jolts players forward in a groundbreaking experience that’s ripped-from-the-headlines-of-tomorrow, envisioning a future where both technology and tactics have evolved to usher in a new era of combat for the franchise. Set in the year 2054, a private military corporation (PMC) has emerged with the power to rescue humanity from a devastated world struggling to rebuild after a global attack on its military and infrastructure. You are the advanced soldier. Empowered with new, cutting-edge exoskeleton abilities, technological advancements and high-tech gear, players join the ranks of a highly-trained, specialized unit committed to restoring order in a state of advanced warfare.
