In 1924, Marcus Loew founded MGM, ushering in the era of films preceded by the iconic “lion’s roar.” 2014 has been a celebration of the MGM 90th Anniversary with special releases, reissues and a full assortment of titles from the studios library, all on-sale in a special Amazon store. To close out 2014 and usher in 2015, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, MGM and THE ROCK FATHER are teaming-up to highlight some of the great family films that have been re-issued in special MGM 90th packaging – but that’s not all! We’re going to give you a chance to win a trio of these MGM Family Classics: THE SECRET OF NIMH, ALL DOGS GO TO HEAVEN and LEGALLY BLONDE!
The Secret of NIMH
Get ready to meet some runaway rodents with an earth-shattering secret! Suspenseful and heartwarming, this beautifully animated odyssey stars Mrs. Brisby, a mild mannered mother mouse with a plan to move Heaven and Earth (or at least her house and home) to save her family from Farmer Fitzgibbon’s plow! Along the way she gets some help from a lovelorn Crow, a busybody neighbor mouse and a fearsome Great Owl. Unfortunately, Mrs. Brisby will need an engineering miracle to hoist her home, and for that she must face a mysterious rat, fend off a ferocious cat and claim a magic amulet! But when Mrs. Brisby discovers the astounding secret of NIMH…it could change her life forever! This timeless tale of love, courage and determination will transport the whole family into an enchanting world where the bravest hearts live in the meekest of mice.
All Dogs go to Heaven
Set in 1939 New Orleans, this colorful, song-filled story centers on Charles B. Barkin, a roguish German Shepherd with the charm of a con man and the heart of a marshmallow. Out for revenge against his double-crossing former partner, a cigar-chomping pit bull known as Carface, Charlie finds himself guardian to a lonely little orphan named Anne-Marie. Her astounding ability to talk to animals leads this unlikely pair on an adventure packed with thrills, laughs, tears and true love.
Legally Blonde
She’s a California sorority girl who’ll do anything to keep her man. Even if it means going all the way to law school! Reese Witherspoon (Election) stars with Luke Wilson (Charlie’s Angels), Selma Blair (Cruel Intentions), Matthew Davis (Pearl Harbor) and Victor Garber (Titanic) in a knock-out comedy with a heart of gold and hair to match! Elle Woods (Witherspoon) is a California blonde with couture clothes, fabulous friends and the hottest boyfriend on campus. So when Warner Huntington III (Davis) suddenly dumps her and heads for Harvard Law School, Elle takes matters into her own perfectly manicured hands. She enrolls too! Now getting Warner back should be a snap, right? Wrong! Elle’s about to begin the toughest fight of her life for love, honor, justice and respect for blondes everywhere!
The Princess Bride
When the beautiful maiden Buttercup (Robin Wright) hears that her true love Westley (Cary Elwes) is dead, she reluctantly agrees to marry the loathsome Prince Humperdinck (Chris Sarandon). After Westley returns to rescue Buttercup, the two begin an epic adventure filled with fencing, fighting, giants, monsters, miracles, true love and hilarity! Featuring an all-star cast, including Mandy Patinkin, Billy Crystal and Christopher Guest, The Princess Bride is an almost inconceivable delight from Oscar® Nominee Rob Reiner and Oscar®-Winning screenwriter William Goldman.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls — start your engines. You’re about to take an incredible ride with one of the most wonderful family films of all time! With its clever tunes (including the OSCAR®-Nominated title song), marvelous cast and enchanting storyline, this delightful romp is lots of fun and simply “toot sweet” to pass up! Dick Van Dyke stars as eccentric inventor Caractacus Potts, who creates an extraordinary car called Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. It not only drives — but also flies and floats — as it leads him, his two children and his beautiful lady friend, Truly Scrumptious (Sally Ann Howes), into a magical world of pirates, castles and endless adventure.
The Pebble and the Penguin
Can the perfect pebble help a bashful penguin find his true love? Based on the real-life mating rituals of the Adeli penguins in Antarctica, this “charming” (The New York Times) animated adventure comes to Blu-ray for the first time. Hubie (Martin Short) is a hopeless romantic in love with Marina (Annie Golden), the most beautiful penguin in all the land. But the evil penguin Drake (Tim Curry) also wants Marina and will stop at nothing to get her. With help from his new friend Rocko (James Belushi)–a penguin determined to fly–Hubie must thwart Drake’s plan and win Marina’s heart!
