Having caught their recent video for ‘Soldiers,’ Las Vegas band OTHERWISE wasn’t exactly at the top of my ‘must-listen’ list. But, after a special request came in for me to give their new album TRUE LOVE NEVER DIES a spin, I figured it couldn’t hurt. The problem is, that uncanny feeling of ‘Haven’t I heard this before?‘
OTHERWISE is a talented group of musicians, no doubts there, but from the first proper song, “Die For You,” I felt that I was listening to a TRAPT tribute band. Seriously, ‘Vegas Girl’ is the cliche “bad girl” song that everyone has from HINDER to NICKLEBACK to THEORY OF A DEADMAN to MY DARKEST DAYS and everyone going back to MOTLEY CRUE has pounded into the ground (perhaps, literally). There’s just nothing new here, which makes for a very short “review.”
OTHERWISE will likely find much success at “modern rock” and “active rock” radio, and I can already sense that they’ll be quite the fixture on package tours and radio station “Rock Fests” for the forseeable future. It’s just a little bland for my tastes, and purely ‘average.’
The Rock Father Rating: 2.5 out of 5 Stars
