When I stopped into the Hasbro Party at Chicago’s Hard Rock Cafe this past July, one of the special guests was a purple monkey named Cheeky. You see, he’s one of the newest additions to the growing ELEFUN AND FRIENDS line, and the subject of two new games being released in-time for Fall: CHEEKY’S BARREL BURST (pre-order here) and CHASIN’ CHEEKY (out now). As luck would have it, the folks at Hasbro Games had already sent the latter to Rock Father HQ for evaluation in The Rock Father’s State-of-the-Art Toy Testing Facility (our house).
CHASIN’ CHEEKY is a fairly simple game, but one that finds young children quickly enthralled.
Here’s how the game goes down:
- Scatter the included rings around on the floor.
- Kids pick up the rings and Chase Cheeky in an attempt to toss them on Cheeky’s tail.
- The first one to get all three of their rings on Cheeky’s tail needs to steal the banana from his mouth.
- Do the Cheeky victory dance as Cheeky shakes his… cheeks.
We’ve had Chasin’ Cheeky for a month now, and he’s still in-use… which is a great sign. It’s a came of coordination, speed, and skill… and it gets the little ones movin’ – runnin’, shakin’, and yes – chasin’.
While the kids love him, the Dad in me has to point out that CHASIN’ CHEEKY makes a mechanical noise while turning that can be kind of grating… as if his motor switches gears and grinds a bit. I’m not a fan of the noise, but that’s probably just me being “Old Crankypants” again.
CHASIN’ CHEEKY is available now at Walmart (order one here) and other retailers.
The Rock Father Rating: 3.5/5 Stars
Disclosure: As noted above, a Chasin’ Cheeky game was provided to The Rock Father by Hasbro for the purpose of review consideration. All opinions are that of James Zahn with input from his children.
