As 2015 got started, practically everyone in children’s media was declaring it “The Year of the Dinosaur.” I’m sure that claim has been staked in previous years as well, but 2015 has already seen the arrival of POWER RANGERS DINO CHARGE, the DINOSAUR TRAIN keeps on rolling over at PBS KIDS, Disney•Pixar’s THE GOOD DINOSAUR comes later this Fall, and the year promises the return to Jurassic Park with the Chris Pratt-starring JURASSIC WORLD. But, as I’ve written in the past – has there every really been a year when kids don’t like Dinosaurs? GRIMLOCK has been leading the Dinobots in TRANSFORMERS adventures since roughly 1984, so when Shout! Factory sent us a copy of TRANSFORMERS RESCUE BOTS: JURASSIC ADVENTURE, my interest was piqued. But, there are no Dinobots here… despite an included episode bearing the title “Return of the Dino Bot.” It’s pun, and and episode we’d seen way back when on the late Hub Network – one in which a life-sized robotic Tyrannosaurus Rex began wreaking havoc on Griffin Rock. “True Dinobots” or not, any collection of RESCUE BOTS is still fine by me, and should be fine for just about anyone with preschoolers.
While most of the episodes have some kind of prehistoric connection (as opposed to truly “jurassic”), this six-episode set is still a worthy collection for the youngest TRANSFORMERS fans that might not be quite ready for the older fare. I just wish that some of the Season Three Episodes (where Optimus Prime got his “Dino Mode” – a toy of which we have here) were included. I’m sure we can look forward to a DVD release for those down the line.
Episodes included are as follows:
- Family Of Heroes
- Return Of The Dinobot
- What Lies Below
- What Rises Above
- In Search Of The Griffin’s Nest
- Movers And Shakers
Rock Father-Approved!
