The crew over at Toy State have really been rolling out some sweet new rides of late – many of which have emerged due to their partnership with Mattel to create vehicles based on the iconic HOT WHEELS brand. As a 2014 Toy State Test Driver, I’ve been able to try out many of these with my girls, right here at Rock Father HQ – and this week there’s sort of a “Baja” theme, as we just reviewed one Baja from their Engine Power line – and here we have the Team Hot Wheels Baja Truck from the Energy Can R/C collection.

Perfect for these summer days and nights (and reasonably priced at under $20), the Energy Can R/C line packs a small-scale, 5-inch vehicle into what appears to be a can of Nitrous – racing booster, or in this case, the “Energy Can.”
Twist the top and slide the handle out, and there you have a perfect carrying case for your new ride – and the small radio transmitter clips neatly into the bottom. Push a button and it lights the car. Push another, and it ejects when it’s race time.
While our larger-scale vehicles tend to be a big hit for outside driving, our Energy Can Baja Truck is perfect for indoor use – just the right size to cruise the laminate flooring with ease. Only problem I tend to have is that both of my girls want one of their own – which means we might have to get another one, but with four styles available, that’s easily accomplished.
We’ve had our Baja Truck for about a month now, and it’s performed quite well with near daily use, and no change in batteries yet – something I’ve noted with other Toy State releases as well – they’re not energy hogs, and that’s appreciated.
ROCK FATHER-APPROVED!
Fun Fact: This Baja Truck is very similar to the #68 Baja Truck featured in TEAM HOT WHEELS: THE ORIGIN OF AWESOME, and we used it’s 1:64 diecast version from the Hot Wheels mainline for comparison.
