Review: SOULFLY’s ‘Chama’ Is Built for Chaos

Published:

This new SOULFLY album hits harder than an MLB slugger smacking home runs and sending balls into orbit — and really, are you surprised? Max Cavalera and crew once again kick ass and take names across nearly every track.

Chama is out now via Nuclear Blast Records, and believe me when I tell ya — it’ll wreck your neck. “No Pain = No Power,” featuring FEAR FACTORY guitarist Dino Cazares and guest vocals from Gabriel Franco (UNTO OTHERS) and Ben Cook (NO WARNING), will leave you wishing for a neck brace, while “Black Hole Scum” will have you spittin’ teeth like sunflower seeds.

Elsewhere, “Favela/Dystopia” and the title track “Chama” will have you ready to rip some heads off. I’m not saying you should (I totally am), nor do I condone that behavior (I totally will).

And then there’s “Always Was, Always Will Be” — my f**king favorite on the record, ya heard?. This one just destroys, plain and simple.

Look, Chama will hurt you, but in the best way possible. It’s violent, cathartic, and 100% SOULFLY. Crank it loud, feel the impact, and check it out, yeah? You’re welcome.

STANDOUT TRACKS: “Always Was, Always Will Be,” “No Pain = No Power,” “Black Hole Scum,” “Chama”
RATING: 9/10
