It’s not often this situation presents itself, but with THE WARRIORS are a band on their fourth studio album – and I haven’t heard any of their prior works. With no background on which to judge, SEE HOW YOU ARE (out today on Victory Records) arrives without preconceived notions or opinion on which to compare.
While falling into the hardcore realm, THE WARRIORS carry themselves with more punk elements than say, their labelmates in EMMURE who also have a new album on shelves today. Not quite as beefy, but every bit as furious, SEE HOW YOU ARE is just over a half hour of rock from a SoCal outfit that captures an old-school vibe without coming off as dated.
Tracks like “Here We Go Again” bring to mind a possible influence of early DEFTONES will a bit of mid-90’s BIOHAZARD, while some of the riffing on tracks such as “The War Unseen” brings to mind a little bit of a SUICIDAL TENDENCIES vibe.
Overall, SEE HOW YOU ARE is an album with decent structure but at times feels as if the vocals are headed in a different direction than the music. Without a lot of variation between songs, there’s a lack of real memorable moments that I can get behind.
