It’s week six for the second season of ABC‘s THE TOY BOX and this coming Sunday we’ll get a look at new batch of toys from a fresh crop of hopeful toy inventors. As we’ve seen before, not all of the toys being showcased are truly “new,” and several of them have crossed my path here at Rock Father HQ in recent years. This week sees a game that launched at the Chicago Toy & Game Fair back in 2012 – Ninja Cards. Sound familiar? They might, as they already made a failed run at Shark Tank back in 2014. Five years in, how will this one fare against the judges on The Toy Box? We’ll find out this Sunday, but first check out the full rundown on all eight toys competing this week…

Putty Pets – tiny stuffed animals filled with clay that can be squeezed, shaped and rolled. Inventor: Jerrett from Aurora, Colorado

RPS Revolution – a new spin on “rock, paper, scissors” that uses collectible figurines. Inventor: Kathy from Wheaton, Illinois
At the end of the eight-week competition series, one grand prize winner (who will also score a cool $100K) will see their toy manufactured by Mattel to be sold exclusively at Toys “R’ Us. As noted in season one, there’s some fine print in which Mattel has the option to produce other worthy toys along the way. Last season, the Artsplash took the top prize, yet the Sweet Shaper and Noisy Persons also popped up on Toys “R” Us shelves. And, as I’m sure some will note, Toys “R” Us recently filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection, it’s currently “business as usual” in their stores, and that will likely not have any impact on availability of these toys as they move through restructuring.
