Disney XD’s ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN: WEB WARRIORS features Peter Parker being joined by Spider-Man 2099, Iron-Spider, Miles Morales and more as Spidey spans generations for maximum heroic action. To help launch the excitement, Hasbro has issued an all-new toy collection based on the show, with multiple Spider-men available across an array of play patterns – including action figures, role play and vehicles. If you’re subscribed to THE ROCK FATHER on YouTube, then you may have caught a brief unboxing video last month. If not, here it is below, along with some thoughts from The Rock Daughters and myself…
MARVEL ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN WEB WARRIORS WEB SLINGERS SPIDER-MAN Figure
The most standard item of the assortment we received, this 6-inch Spidey is all about the “Web Slingers” action that’s highlighted heavily across the entire line. Each Web Slingers item contains a pair of rubber webs that can be “slung” from strategic points on each toy. The concept is pretty simple – much like shooting a rubber band from your fingers or hand. They’re a pretty well-received feature, but using them with the figure alone is far from the most fun – for that, it’s all about the playset and the blaster…
MARVEL ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN WEB WARRIORS TRICKSHOT SHOWDOWN SET (Addie’s Top Pick)
Action figure playsets have been pretty basic for the past few years, aside from a few notable exceptions like the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Sewer Lair Playset (Playmates Toys) or the massive MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Castle Grayskull that Mattel issued through MattyCollector. The Trickshot Showdown set is pretty much in-line with what’s the norm these days – a relatively simple two-sided diorama with a suggested retail of $25. But this one is actually pretty cool in that it’s plastic (no cardboard backgrounds) and feels like the corner of a high-tech base somewhere. The girls dig it, particularly my oldest, who really likes the swinging crane feature at the top, and the break-away doors. Those Web Slingers? Tons of places to hook them on and let them fly.
There’s also some fun to be had by blasting the Green Goblin (who appears on a trick door) and Venom (a target up top).
MARVEL ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN WEB WARRIORS SPIDER-MAN with SPIDER SPEEDSTER (Finley’s Top Pick)
Probably just because it has wheels on it, the Spider Speedster had Little Finley’s interest before we’d even cracked it open. The non-motorized, kid-powered bike comes with a Spider-man figure, and the front axles have tabs for attaching the Web Slingers. Simple, well-made, and fun.
Bonus: Addie demonstrates the Web Slingers using the Spider Speedster:
MARVEL ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN WEB WARRIORS BLASTER
Addie already has her pink and silver Spider-girl costume, and both girls have had fun sharing their Hasbro Spider-man mask from last year’s AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 collection, so when a glove showed up that added sound into the mix alongside the ability to “web sling” from their wrists? This was like a crowning achievement, and I still have to occasionally remind Addie NOT to sling “webs” at certain items in the house. Role play is important, and this is a really cool item at a suggested retail of under $15 bucks.
The Bottom Line: There’s nothing here that we can’t recommend, though we have noticed some stress wear on the Trickshot Showdown set (particularly in the tallest corner where the two walls come together) after about five weeks of play… but that’s what it’s all about – PLAY. Toys are meant to be played with, and there’s a lot of play value for girls and boys of all ages in this line.
Rock Father-approved!
