The Rock Father's Growums Adventure: Part 2

Written by

When we last left the Growums, Tomicio, Baby Basil, Regan O., and Belle Peppa were comfortably settling into their coco pellets for a healthy dose of sunlight and warm water. It's been just over a week since the first installment of The Rock Father's Growums Adventure was posted, and this morning an email arrived here at Rock Father HQ from Captain Eggplant, reminding us to check on our Pizza Garden.

While updating The Rock Father™ Facebook page tonight (please, go give me a ''like''), I happened across a post from the folks at Step2 that was too cool not to share. Previously ''retired'' in 2009, their Pedal Farm Tractor is back - revamped with a sleeker look and a smiley-face grill. The one question I had was quickly answered by a trip to their website - yes, they also have a trailer. I'm tempted... $79.99 for the tractor, while the trailer runs an additional $49.99. I'm picturing my daughter crusing around the vegetable garden on this right now while hauling some plants and her little garden tools in the back...

While cruising through the just-set department of Spring & Summer items a TOYS R US a few weeks back, the little one and I stumbled upon a few shelves with grow kits from BUZZY SEEDS. Alongside the current line of ''My First Grow Pails'' was an assortment of ''My First Sunflower Grow Kits,'' that must've been from last year, as they were on clearance - and are nowhere to be found on Buzzy's website. Since they were only $2, and since we love Sunflowers (the background of this blog currently features Sunflowers that we grew last year), I figured that we'd give one a try and document the progress here on The Rock Father™ Gardening Blog.

With record-setting temperatures here in Northern Illinois this week, the little one and I have been spending a lot of time outside getting inspired for the Spring and Summer Gardening seasons. In fact, having cleared 80-degrees already, this is the warmest March on record, and a lot of our Garden Friends that shouldn't be here yet have already arrived. Joining them for 2012 are some new friends, the GROWUMS.

GROWUMS are a collection of six themed gardening kits that encourage kids to ''put a little character in your garden.'' Intrigued by the kits and their vast array of characters, educational tools, and transmedia presence, I reached out to the Growums team to learn a little bit more.

As we're experiencing record-highs here in Northern Illinois this week, my daughter and I have been seizing the opportunity to get outside and start working on our garden clean-up. After all, Spring is technically just a few days away. For those of you that are ready to get your Little Gardener ready for 2012, our friends at Melissa & Doug have sent The Rock Father™ word that you can now Save 15% On Any SUNNY PATCH Order At MelissaandDoug.com! through 3/31/12 Code: SUNNY15. They're also running a free shipping promo right now as well!

As the retail landscape continues to evolve, Barnes & Noble has been expanding their online product assortment and offering some very competitive pricing (even rivaling Amazon at times) in order to avoid a fate like that of the recently-departed Borders. That said, it's a good time for consumers, and I was surprised to learn that it's BABY WEEK at Barnes & Noble, and that they're offering 25% Off Hundreds of Baby Gifts and Essentials at BN.com. But that's not all. They have other great deals for parents on items for kids, and The Rock Father™ is sharing the info below...
