As revealed earlier today, Toys "R" Us has announced a massive, Global initiative surrounding the September 4 #ForceFriday launch of toys from STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS. Part of that initiative includes “Destination: Star Wars – The Experience” - a special exhibition running Wednesday, August 26 – Monday, September 7 at the flagship Times Square Toys "R" Us in New York City. It will feature a special exhibition featuring prototypes, originals and early editions of some of the best-known STAR WARS toys in the world, curated by Rancho Obi-Wan, Inc., a non-profit museum that houses the Guinness World Record-certified largest collection of STAR WARS memorabilia. Presented prominently throughout the store, “Destination: Star Wars – The Experience,” will showcase dozens of notable collectibles based on all six feature films from the STAR WARS Saga. The folks at TRU hit THE ROCK FATHER Magazine with photos and an extensive list of the products that will be featured. Check out the full list below, then head over to my Facebook Page for a full photo gallery of this Vintage STAR WARS Goodness!

We are officially just one month away from what will be known as #ForceFriday, and readers of THE ROCK FATHER Magazine know that this has been a destination for a daily look back at nearly four full decades of STAR WARS toys and collectibles through Hasbro's Force Friday Countdown Calendar, with features that have been posted right here for the past few months. As the September 4th Global Launch of new products based on J.J. Abrams' STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS looms, retailers are announcing their plans, and Toys "R" Us is going BIG with events at stores in 38 countries - including an event in NYC that's so big I'll be featuring it in another post - DESTINATION: STAR WARS - THE EXPERIENCE. From the official announcement...

It feels like it really crept up on us this year, but the annual Comic-Con International is set to take place in San Diego from July 9-12, and the crew over at Toys "R" Us has unveiled their full lineup of exclusive items, which they've once again partnered with the folks from Entertainment Earth to make available on-site. It's a Hasbro-heavy collection, but Mattel, Bandai, Mezco and Schleich are also in the mix this year, with toys also being made available online on July 9th as part of Toys "R" Us' all-new #CollectorVector - a store-within-a-store that will focus on the "mature collector." This announcement was made a few days back, but since I've been traveling, I'm a little late with the news, but I do have some thoughts on these. The Batgirl, G.I. Joe and STAR WARS sets are items I'd love to have here at Rock Father HQ, while I should probably avoid showing the girls the MLP offerings...

One of the biggest stories here on THE ROCK FATHER in the past few months was the news that toys based on NickJr's BLAZE AND THE MONSTER MACHINES were headed for Toys "R" Us. Reaction to that first-look at the new, high-octane vehicles from Mattel's Fisher-Price (especially on Facebook & Instagram) just solidified how much kids are loving the excitement of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) infused series. Now it's official - the BLAZE AND THE MONSTER MACHINES Toys have arrived in-store and online exclusively through Toys "R" Us - a launch perfectly-timed to the debut of DRAGON ISLAND DUEL, airing Monday, May 25th at 11am ET/PT on Nickelodeon. While we have not yet had a chance to check out any of the toys personally (our eyes are on the Die-Cast collection), I've heard from a few readers that have, and the folks at Nick did provide us with an early look at DRAGON ISLAND DUEL, which is officially Rock Father-approved!

With Star Wars Day falling on a Monday this year, the folks at Toys "R" Us got their action going a day early (Sunday, May 3) with a special LEGO build in which kids were able to build and take home a miniature LEGO STAR WARS Wookiee Gunship and an exclusive comic book - both completely free. While TRU has been doing cool in-store events for awhile, this is just a small piece of a larger initiative that looks to get families into the stores and build excitement for the forthcoming release of STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS this December. We attended at our local store yesterday, and while Addie was completely into the LEGO build, both girls enjoyed seeing their old friend, Geoffrey, and Little Miss Finley was really digging the larger-scale STAR WARS figures by JAKKS Pacific... greeting each one, which is something she's done on each of our past few TRU visits. Take a look...

I've long-held the opinion that Toys "R" Us is an important retailer - perhaps the most important for children, as the last great toy retailer to have a National presence here in the United States. Families deserve a true toy store with real selection (the other "Big Box" places just don't cut it - not even close), and while TRU has some ongoing woes to deal with (many of which I could solve, but they haven't called me yet), they're making strides to win customers back through making a visit to the House of Geoffrey an "event." While I doubt kids today will ever see the pegs as packed as I recall them during the initial run of the Original STAR WARS Trilogy from 1977-1983 (towering, cavernous, dimly-lit aisles stacked to the ceiling with new Kenner STAR WARS action figures and vehicles), Toys "R"Us is declaring themselves to be "DESTINATION: STAR WARS" starting with International STAR WARS Day (technically May 4, but their celebration is May 3) and leading up to and through the release of THE FORCE AWAKENS this December. Here's the details...
