ABC’s THE GOLDBERGS was one of the big surprises for me over the past year – a new comedy that I actually dug, one rooted in the era of my own childhood, the glorious 1980s. The production design is perfect, and the scenarios (and the toys) could’ve been ripped straight from my own youth (especially… a kid running around with a big-ass VHS video camera). Now, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is issuing the complete first season on DVD, and on September 9, it could be yours for the taking – with all 23 episodes of the series contained within three discs. Lets take a look at the details…
Narrated by Patton Oswalt (MARVEL’s AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.), THE GOLDBERGS features Wendi McLendon-Covey (BRIDESMAIDS), Sean Giambrone (CLARENCE), Troy Gentile (GOOD LUCK CHUCK), Hayley Orrantia (THE X FACTOR), George Segal (ENTOURAGE) and CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM‘s Jeff Garlin (Random Fact: he walked in front of my car near the Chicago Bloomingdale’s Home Store once).
THE GOLDBERGS: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON includes cast and crew commentary on five episodes, and five all-new, behind-the-scenes featurettes, including a look at creating the first season in “Blast from the Past: Making Season One.” Additional featurettes include “Our House: The ‘80s Revisited,” giving viewers an inside glimpse of the Goldberg home, as well as “On Set with Jeff Garlin,” featuring Goldberg patriarch Murray (Garlin). Fans can also enjoy a rare glimpse into Patton Oswalt’s process as narrator in “Patton Oswalt: Adam Grows Up.” Lastly, “Costumes of the ’80s: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” takes fans on a tour of the wardrobe department where costume designer Keri Smith reveals details on dressing a show set in the ‘80s (I still need the U.S.S. F.L.A.G.G. they used).
